Stay focused with the Pomodoro Technique. 25-minute work sessions followed by 5-minute breaks. Customizable durations and audio notifications.

About this tool

The Pomodoro Technique, developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s, is one of the most effective time management methods ever created. Named after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer Cirillo used as a university student, the technique breaks work into focused 25-minute intervals (called 'pomodoros') separated by 5-minute breaks. After completing four pomodoros, you take a longer 15-30 minute break. This rhythm prevents mental fatigue, maintains high concentration, and creates a sustainable work pace throughout the day. Our Pomodoro Timer implements this technique with customizable durations, session tracking, and audio notifications — all running in your browser with no account needed.

How to use Pomodoro Timer

  1. Set your desired work duration (default: 25 minutes) and break duration (default: 5 minutes).
  2. Click 'Start' to begin your focused work session.
  3. Work until the timer rings, then take your break.
  4. After 4 work sessions, take a longer break (15-30 minutes).

Tips & best practices

  • The standard 25/5 ratio works for most people, but experiment to find your ideal durations.
  • During work sessions, close distracting tabs and put your phone on silent.
  • Use breaks to stretch, hydrate, or rest your eyes — avoid screens.
  • Track completed pomodoros to understand your productivity patterns.

Common use cases

  • Maintaining focus during deep work sessions like writing or coding.
  • Studying for exams with structured study/break intervals.
  • Managing time on freelance projects to stay on schedule.
  • Preventing burnout during long work days with enforced breaks.
